UPCOMING CHURCH EVENTS AS OF APRIL 27, 2008VERY IMPORTANT FREE SEMINAR! APRIL 30: LIVING WILLS: Sponsored by St. Mark’s Care Ministries. Clarke Miller is a retired nursing home administrator and will be speaking on power-of-attorney, living wills, and answering any questions you may have on this subject. The seminar will be held at 7:00 pm in room 8 and is open to the public. WE MUST HAVE AT LEAST TWELVE PEOPLE REGISTERED TO HOLD THIS EVENT. Signup is at the information desk or call the church office at 332-5788. APRIL 27-30: MISSION TRIP TO CHATHAM, ILLINOIS: It’s not too late! We will be leaving today, April 27 at 2:00 pm for the Midwest Mission Distribution Center. We will be preparing donations to be shipped to people in need all around the world. Accommodations will be at their comfortable dormitory and we’ll fellowship together for meals. Contact Lisa Miller at 339-3348 or 332-5788. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30: ANOTHER TASTE OF CHOCOLATE:There will be a dessert and fellowship follow-up for the Chocolate Boutique Retreat at 7:00 pm in room 8. If you attended the Chocolate Retreat, wanted to attend but couldn't, wished you would have, or any women (including high school) who would like to come and see what its about, here's your chance! Join us for some fun and chocolate, and to bid a fond farewell to our chocoholic friend Amber Esping (she's moving to Texas May 11th).SATURDAY, MAY 3: ASP SPONSORED WORK DAY: 8:00 am to noon. Here’s a chance for us to go out into the community and help clean up the yards, etc., for those unable to do so themselves. Everyone is welcome to help. Donations for this service will go towards the ASP fund. A signup sheet is posted on David Mere’s office or call Larry Ingram at 324-8510. GET YOUR BOOKS NOW! MAY 4: BOOK DISCUSSION ON “THE GIRL IN THE TANGERINE SCARF”: Sponsored by the Spiritual Formation Committee. This wonderful book is available through St. Mark's or your local book sellers. Currently, one large discussion group has been scheduled for Sunday, May 4th from 6:00-8:30 pm in the church library. Everyone is welcome to attend, not just St. Mark's members! If there is enough interest, we will make arrangements for additional discussions. WEDNESDAY, MAY 7: GENERAL CONFERENCE DELEGATES: St. Mark’s will be hosting eight delegates from the N. Katanga Conference of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We will provide them with a tour of the church at 4:30 pm, followed by supper at 5:30 pm. Volunteers are needed to serve as French translators, tour guides, supper companions, and meal preparers. Signup in Garton Hall or call the church office at 332-5788.

UPCOMING CHURCH EVENTS AS OF APRIL 27, 2008SUNDAY, MAY 11: “100% CHANCE OF RAIN”: Worship this Mother’s Day will be extra special! At both the 9:30 and 11:00 services the children’s choir, with the help of the youth group, will present the JazzCantata, “100% Chance of Rain” by Walter S. Horsley. This is a musical about Noah, his family, and their lives during the flood. UNITED METHODIST WOMEN BOOK DISCUSSION “TAUGHT BY AMERICA, A STORY OF STRUGGLE AND HOPE IN COMPTON”: An unforgettable book about author Sarah Sentilles and her heartbreaking teaching experience, as she learns about a failing school system, the true meaning of poverty in America, and the strength children exhibit even when they’re struggling to survive. The group will begin meeting on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 pm in the church library. For a copy of the book or more information, call Linda Crawford at 336-2277 or Elaine Larson at 361-8968. SUNDAY, MAY 18: RECOGNITION OF GRADUATES: Calling all high school seniors! We are proud of you and would like to recognize your accomplishments. Graduates will be acknowledged during the 11:00 am service. Preceding the worship we will host a celebration brunch for our graduates and their families at 10:00 am. Graduates are encouraged to prepare a display in Garton Hall showing memorabilia of their accomplishments. If you know of any graduating seniors related to St. Mark’s, please let the church office know so that we may invite them to this celebration. JUNE 9-12: NURSERY SCHOOL ALUMNI CAMP: Join us for our first annual Alumni Camp, open to children finishing kindergarten-2nd grade. The camp fee is $75. Registration forms may be picked up in front of the nursery school office. SATURDAY, JUNE 14: EXTRAVAGANZA SALE: Once again, we will be having an Extravaganza Fundraiser Sale to help support programs and ministries of St. Mark’s. Please think about what good used items you might be able to donate and if you would be willing to help out in some way. JULY 6-10: VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL “POWER LAB”: This summer’s VBS will give children a new enthusiasm for God’s Word and for Jesus! With fun, science-themed surprises and memorable bible points, amazing things are going to happen. Volunteers are needed!
